Schock to host Community Fellowship Thanksgiving Luncheon in Washington, IL
Congressman Aaron Schock will host a Community Fellowship Thanksgiving Luncheon in Washington, IL on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 for victims of the recent tornadoes and storms as well as the first-responders and volunteers. The luncheon will be served between 11am-2pm, with remarks from Congressman Schock and special guests at 12:00pm.
"Thanksgiving is the perfect time to remind all of us about what is truly important- life, health, family and friends. Many in our area have lost nearly all of their material possessions, and as we work to replace them as best we can, this luncheon will hopefully remind us all of what is truly important and thank God for the blessings we still enjoy despite this terrible disaster," said Schock.
In addition to providing a free hot meal for families whose homes were destroyed or damaged and those who have helped with the cleanup and recovery efforts, the event will allow members of the storm damaged communities to come together and lend each other support, fellowship, and a brief break from the hard work of cleaning up and rebuilding.
Congressman Schock and Washington Mayor Gary Manier are especially grateful to the Chicago Blackhawks Charities, which has announced that it will generously donate $200,000 to help underwrite the cost of this luncheon and help the victims and their families recover from this tragedy. “Illinois is our home, and when one of our communities suffers a loss as tragically as the people of Washington did, we want to do all that we can to help them,” said Rocky Wirtz, Chairman of the Chicago Blackhawks.
